Real Projects, Real Results
We have completed over 500 conservatory transformations across Lancashire and Greater Manchester. These case studies show four real projects in detail — the problem the homeowner faced, the solution we applied, and the outcome they received. Approximate cost brackets and timescales are included so you can plan realistically.
Polycarbonate Roof to Solid Tiled Warm Roof — Blackburn
The Challenge
The homeowners had a large Victorian-style conservatory that had been unused for most of the year for over a decade. In summer the polycarbonate roof turned the room into a greenhouse. In winter it was colder than outside due to rapid heat loss. The roof was also increasingly noisy in rain and beginning to yellow and crack.
The Solution
We removed the existing polycarbonate roof and installed a Guardian warm roof system with two Velux skylights and a fully plastered internal ceiling. The warm roof system places the insulation above the structural deck, eliminating cold bridging and providing significantly better thermal performance than an insulated board system fitted beneath the original roof.
The Outcome
The conservatory is now the most-used room in the house. The homeowners reported an immediate and dramatic improvement in comfort, with the room maintaining an even temperature in both summer and winter without additional heating beyond the existing radiator. Rain noise was eliminated entirely. The internal plastered ceiling with LED spotlights and two Velux windows made the room feel like a purpose-built extension.

Full Insulation & Tapco Slate Roof — Burnley
The Challenge
A mid-size Edwardian conservatory with a glass roof and single-glazed dwarf walls was losing heat at a rate that made heating bills unacceptable. The homeowner had installed a standalone electric radiator but found it ran constantly in winter without maintaining a comfortable temperature. The glass roof was also causing severe solar overheating from April through September.
The Solution
We replaced the glass roof with a Tapco slate tile system over a fully insulated warm roof deck. Tapco tiles weigh approximately one-fifth the weight of natural slate, making them suitable for conservatory structures without additional structural reinforcement. We also insulated the dwarf walls internally, finished with a fresh internal plaster and new LED lighting throughout.
The Outcome
Heating costs for the conservatory dropped dramatically. The homeowner reported being able to heat the room to a comfortable temperature within 15 minutes using only the existing radiator, compared to the room never reaching comfort levels previously. The Tapco slate roof blended seamlessly with the natural slate on the main house, and the room is now used as a permanent home office.
Persistent Leak Traced and Full Roof Refurbishment — Accrington
The Challenge
The homeowner had experienced a recurring leak for two years and had paid two other contractors to repair it, without success. Water was appearing on the interior window ledges after heavy rain but no visible damage was present on the roof. The pattern of water entry was misleading previous contractors into treating the wrong area.
The Solution
Our assessment identified that the source was not the roof panels themselves but a section of lead flashing at the ridge junction where the conservatory roof meets the main house wall. The flashing had lifted in one short section, allowing water to enter and travel 1.8 metres along the valley before dripping at the window ledge. We reseated and repointed the full length of flashing using lead-compatible sealant and new lead clips. We also replaced two polycarbonate sheets that had cracked.
The Outcome
The leak did not recur following the repair. The homeowner commented that the correct diagnosis in a single visit, after two failed previous attempts by other contractors, gave them immediate confidence in the work. Total cost was significantly lower than the price quoted by one previous contractor for a full roof replacement they did not need.
Complete Conservatory Refurbishment — Rochdale
The Challenge
A 1990s lean-to conservatory with original single-glazed windows, a cracked polycarbonate roof, faded uPVC frames, and a damp floor. The structure was sound but every above-ground component was at end of life. The homeowner had obtained quotes for full demolition and rebuild at over £25,000 and wanted to know if a refurbishment was viable.
The Solution
We replaced all above-ground components while retaining the original concrete base and dwarf walls. New white uPVC frames with A-rated double-glazed units replaced the original single-glazed windows and doors. A solid insulated roof with Tapco tiles replaced the polycarbonate. Internal walls were re-plastered and the floor was overlaid with insulated floor boards and new luxury vinyl tile. The refurbishment covered everything the homeowner could see and touch.
The Outcome
The completed conservatory was unrecognisable from the original. The homeowner saved approximately £16,000 compared to a full demolish-and-rebuild and achieved a result that estate agents valued as additional habitable square footage. The room is now a year-round family room, insulated, fully glazed, and finished to extension standard. The project included building control notification and a 10-year written guarantee on all work.
